Rental car insurance: what does it really cover?

Comprehensive cover, liability and excess explained without the fine print.

Rental car insurance: what does it really cover?

Insurance is the topic most customers are unsure about – and the topic most rental companies keep vague. We do the opposite: here is the full picture, with no fine print.

What's included

  • All our cars carry full comprehensive cover through a Norwegian insurer
  • Liability insurance covers damage to other people and vehicles
  • Roadside assistance is included should anything unexpected happen

What you are responsible for

  • Excess: damage up to NOK 40,000 is covered by you as the renter
  • Damage above NOK 40,000 is assessed together with the insurer
  • A NOK 5,000 deposit is held during the rental and covers tolls, fuel and minor damage
  • Fines, speeding tickets and parking violations are always the driver's responsibility

Never covered by insurance

  • Misfuelling
  • Damage caused while driving under the influence
  • Track use or organised competitive driving
  • Driving off sealed roads

How to reduce your risk

  • Drive conservatively for the first 20 minutes until the car feels familiar
  • Take extra care with parking, kerbs and speed bumps – wheel and underbody damage is by far the most common claim
  • Double-check the fuel type before filling
  • Record a walkaround video at pick-up and drop-off

Unsure about anything? Ask before you book – we always answer straight.
